The Conan Portfolio - Plate 4

  1. THE CONAN PORTFOLIO: Plate 4 - A black ink and black color pencil on 11 x 14 size coquille board. This drawing appears as part of a Conan art folio in the comics magazine, "The Savage Sword of Conan, No.9".

    When I was drawing this picture I was reminded of Matthew Arnold's poem;

    " . . . The world, which seems to lie before us like a land of dreams,
    So various, so beautiful, so new, hath really neither joy, nor love,
    nor light, nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain,

    And we are are here as on a darkling plain, swept with confused
    alarms of struggle and flight, Where ignorant armies clash by night". -
